The Area Agency on Aging is a certified provider of the Voicecare™ personal emergency response system. These units, plugged into a senior's existing phone line, enable the senior at the push of a button to summon help from anywhere in their homes or even up to 500 feet outside their homes. When activated, the units are answered within 3 rings by a live operator who can converse with the person from anywhere in the house. If an emergency situation is identified, or if no response is obtained from the subscriber, the operator will summon emergency assistance from a pre-arranged list of emergency responders in the area. The Voicecare™ system can provide peace of mind not only for the senior but for family members worried about the senior's welfare when they can't be there.
These personal emergency response systems are available to some seniors under the state's ElderChoices program and are also available to persons of any age on a private pay basis.
